My Bio
I’m Zach. I’m an OK photographer, I think, with my favorite subject being the great outdoors, especially in the beautiful Centennial State. I was born, raised, and still live in the shadow of the Front Range in Jefferson County, Colorado. In the summer I can usually be found in my garden, or out with the chickens or hiking, backpacking and camping in the Rocky Mountains. In the fall and winter, I move east to the rivers, ponds and fields of corn stubble and winter wheat to hunt ducks and geese both with my Browning 12ga and my camera. I spent 4 years between Hawaii and Iraq on active duty in the Army where I married my "high school sweetheart" nearly 5 years ago and we have a 3 year old son. I currently do landscaping, going to school for natural resource management and am in the Colorado Army National Guard.

I have just spent the past week in the town of Longmont as a member of the Colorado National Guard in order to help the victims of the recent flooding. All I can say is wow, what an experience. It was at times heartbreaking and at others, heart lifting to see people who have gone through so much, some who literally lost every worldly possession they had and also to see a community pull together, put on their galoshes and work gloves and transform what was, on Saturday, nothing short of a warzone, into a living working city again. I also have to say thank you to that amazing community for the love, appreciation and cooperation and patience tha

So, here we are again folks! Time to hang up the waders, pack away the decoys and tune the calls. Were trading in shotguns and shells for garden hoes and seeds! Duck season is over and its counterpart, planting season, is fast approaching! We have 4 new chicks in the brooder as of Monday, 2 black cochins and 2 speckled sussex so I need to build an all enclosed run for them so we can be more prepared for predators this year. Weshould be seeing our first eggs come fall. The weather is warming (this week anyways, Colorado weather in March/April is usually bipolar as hell) so that means its time to start getting the beds ready for this years gar

After being in the Army for 4 years and having to give up my favorite birds ever, I finally get to have chickens again! lets hope the landlord doesn't throw a fit hahaha. UPDATE: We now have 2 light brahma pullets. My FAVORITE cuz that what my dear, sweet Roberta was. One had pastey butt, but luckially the wife figured it out so I could save her, and shes doing 100% better. She doesn't have a name yet but her friend is named T-rex, I tried to name the other one Archeopteryx (in keeping with the dinosaur theme) but appreantly its too hard to pronounce so it's back to the drawing board.

Lol I just wanted to say that your username is entertaining to me. I dunno, I just find it funny. xD I know that was weird, but I just had to get it out.
Glad I brought a smile to your day :)
I appreciate good birding photos and I really don't mind hunters, esp. if they eat what they shoot. Nice gallery!
Thank you so much again for your kind words. I have been an admirer of your work for some time so it does mean a great deal to me.

Mallard breast cooked to a perfect medium rare in real butter with a red wine sauce is my absolute FAVORITE thing in the world. I dont find goose quite as good as a steak (which claims second place to wild duck) but it makes a good barbeque sandwitch or pot roast. Although I have heard white fronted geese (speckle bellies) taste much better then the Canada geese Im used to. This was my first year taking a snow (ross) goose, so we'll see if they are any good.
Well, good luck with the taste test! I'm really, really OK with hunters that eat their prey, not so much for hunters that kill for the killing's sake, if nothing else, it's so wasteful! Rob the Swash
I dont agree with that either. I look at poachers as little more then a common theif who are stealing game from the land, and from other, ethical sportsmen. I dont really partake in trophy hunting (hard to do when most geese and ducks look about the same more or less anyways) but the guys I know who do also bring the meat home with them too. Unfortunately for the animals and other hunters this is not always the case and it makes us all look bad.
Zach, pls tell me how yu saw the Car For Sale so fast I just submitted it minutes ago. I can never find my images once they are submitted myself. thanks, spear images
